Abstract

This paper presents some of our experiences in designing and developing enterprise application integration solutions based on BizTalk Server. Our discussion covers the problems with the existing BizTalk Enterprise-to-Enterprise integration approaches and illustrates how the new Enterprise Service Bus architecture, Business Activity Monitoring, and BizTalk orchestration models can be applied to solve these problems. The ESB architectural solutions presented are intended to solve the problems of message-based cross-organization communication that exist in the current BizTalk Server implementations. We have constructed the BizTalk-based solutions that employ Business Activity Monitoring and ESB and that flow business processes across business partners. We also demonstrate how the Business Activity Monitoring models are interlaced with the new architectural patterns. The results provide insight into the complexity involved in the modeling, analysis, and proper design of the service compositions.
